ADULTS $40 • KIDS $25

This past week concluded the Central Jersey "A" team's season.  The team finished strong with wins over Ridge (72-14) and Hillsborough (62-30).  Overall, the team finished the season with a respectable 12-5 dual meet record in an extremely competitive league. Worth mentioning were standout performances from Christian Burns (18-0) and Garret Beam (16-0) who finished the season undefeated.  This is a GREAT accomplishment considering the level of talented teams in our league and they should be very proud!  Next up for the Bears is our year-end league tournament where many of our kids hope to be high on the podium at the finish.  Good luck and keep up the hard work!

Congratulations to Pat Phillips & Kyle Schroeck taking 1st & 2nd Place respectively and Jon Braun taking 1st Place at the New Providence CJMWL "B" Tournament today! Also putting in solid performances in tough matches today were Peter Siragusa, Jovanni Salcfas and Liam Matier. We want to wish Liam a speedy recovery from his injury suffered today!

Congratulations to Joseph DiGrado for taking 1st Place today in the South Plainfield Open Tournament!

NJ Wrestling:
Breaking down Group 2 semifinals, final

CHRIS ORLANDO, February 12, 2011 9:14 p.m.
GROUP 2
No. 10 Brearley (16-1) vs. Delsea (20-2)
West Essex (13-4) vs. Long Branch (19-5)
Semifinals 10 a.m.
Championship 3:30 p.m.
Brearley wrestlers to watch: Anthony Madonia (22-6 at 119), Anthony Rice (17-3 at 125), Dom Martinez (13-9 at 130), Andrew Scarillo (8-13 at 135), Nick Lospinoso (20-5 at 140), Dan Ries (23-5, ranked fifth  at 145), Devin Geoghegan (21-4, ranked sixth at 152), John Balboni (7-3 at 160), Dillon Geoghegan (20-6, ranked seventh at 171), Anthony Tancs (19-10 at 189), Greg Rice (15-9 at 215)
Prediction: Brearley has emerged as one of the state’s elite teams over the last six seasons and it will look to reach a group final for the fourth time in the last five years. The Kenilworth school bowed to Long Branch in the 2008 and 2009 Group 2 finals and a rematch today is likely. Brearley, which suffered its only loss of the season to No. 2 High Point on Jan. 17, has been spurred by its middle weights this post-season. After getting past a scrappy Delsea team in the semifinal round, look for Brearley to finally claim its first group title with a victory over a sturdy Long Branch squad. Brearley, 34-27.

The Kenilworth Golden Bear Tournament was a great success for everyone involved!  With over 300 wrestlers signed up, the tournament progressed very smoothly and without any major problems. As for the wrestling, there were MANY medals taken home by Kenilworth wrestlers.

Bringing home the Gold were Charlie Reithel, Garret Beam, Sebastian Montesdeoca, Savario Salcfas and Jeff Velez.  Congrats on an awesome performance!

Bringing home Silver medals were Joey Pinto, Matthew Sims, Lucca Limeira, Quinn Lonergan, Jack Balwierczak, Jon Braun, Sal LaRosa, Jovanni Salcfas, Emanuel Montero, Mike Ramos, Zack Cesaro, Matt Armamento, Ray Wetzel, Sal Gorka, Eoghan Savona and Vincent Scorese.  Again, Congrats on a great performance by reaching the finals of a competitive tournament.  Although they fell short of the ultimate goal, everyone wrestled extremely hard and learned from their losses.  Hopefully this will help them close the gap next time and achieve that gold medal.

Lastly, our Bronze medalists were Alejandro Cieves, Matt Scalise, Kaitlyn Pizuto, Liam Matier, Danny D'Angelo, Pedro Shimazu, Timmy Murphy and Jordan Velez.  Great job!

Congratulations to all of the Kenilworth wrestlers that participated.  Win or lose, everyone wrestled hard and continues to improve.

The Kenilworth Wrestling Club would like to thank each and every one of the individuals who made this great event possible!  Any amount of help at all is greatly appreciated and goes a long way towards providing all of the necessary means our children need to succeed in this great sport!

Brearley: The Kenilworth school has fallen just short of a group championship the past few years thanks to the likes of Long Branch and, when it was in Group 1, Paulsboro. Things just may line up right for Brearley this time. It returns a tested lineup that boasts both depth and balance. Sophomore Dylan Oliva (103), third in District 11, senior Anthony Madonia (112), second in the district and fourth in Region 3, sophomore Anthony Rice (119), first in the district and fourth in the region, junior Nick Lospinoso (135),second in the district, senior Dan Ries (140), eighth in the state tournament at 140, senior Devin Geoghegan (145), second in the region, sophomore John Balboni (152), third in the region, senior Dillon Geoghegan (160), first in the district, junior Anthony Tancs (171), second in the district, and senior Greg Rice(215), fourth in the district, form an imposing group. Brearley has a new coach in Scot Weaver, formerly of Queen of Peace, who replaces Brian Luciani, who is now the Kenilwoth school’s athletic director.
Contenders: Long Branch, Delaware Valley, West Deptford, Delsea, Delran, Hackettstown and Jefferson.

On Tuesday 12/21 the Kenilworth Central Jersey League "A" team traveled to Watchung Hills to begin its season with a dual meet.  The boys wrestled hard and it showed with a 53-36 victory.  Highlights of the match were pins recorded by Matt Armamento at 67lbs, Vincent Rappa at 77lbs, Zack Cesaro at 83lbs, Christian Burns at 87lbs and Garret Beam at 90lbs.  Also on the winning side were wrestlers Nicky Rappa (15-0 tech fall), Danny D'Angelo (9-0 maj dec), Mike Ramos (12-0 maj dec) and Ray Wetzel (9-0 maj dec).  Even the wrestlers who weren't victorious wrestled hard in some tough losses and we are extremely proud of everyone's effort. All in all a great start to the season!  Keep up the hard work!
