Chessa, Wetzel and Balboni bring home County titles

This past Sunday, our K-6th grade team participated in the 1st Annual Union County Brawl for all eligible Union County Teams. The boys wrestled well and placed 4th as a team. Frank Chessa, Ray Wetzel and Joe Balboni all brought home the gold placing first in their respective weight classes. Other finalists were Alejandro Luna, Mike Ramos and Jeff Velez. All place finishers are listed below.

Bears Middle School team, tops in County. Lospinoso gets OW!
|
With past patriarchs, Joe Los and George Boyden on hand Sunday, the Bears
Middle School team dominated the first Annual Union County Brawl. Of the
16 weight classes, the Bears entered competitors in 13 of them and sent
someone to the finals in each one. Unfortunately, only three were able to
bring home the gold but a great feat nonetheless. Nick Lospinoso, Anthony
Tancs and Nico Cantalupo all brought home individual titles, pacing the
Bears team to the title. Standout, Nick Lospinoso was recognized as the
Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament for his dominating performance on
his way to a title. All of the placefinishers are listed below.

Bears Middle School team dominates Randolph & Hasbrouck Hts in opening wkend
|
After losing 16 competitors from last year's team to graduation, the Bears
have re-loaded and are ready to take on the best middle school teams in NJ.
They opened up their Grade School league competition this weekend by going
on the road and knocking off Randolph. The Bears followed up their strong
effort with a convincing win over out-of-league foe Hasbrouck Heights.
Congrats on a great start to your league competition.

Knapp, Lospinoso among top Juniors in country, Boyden one of the top Seniors
|
A major amateur wrestling publication, Wrestling USA Magazine, recently
ranked three David Brearley wrestlers among the top juniors and seniors in
the country. Kenny Knapp and Joe Lospinoso, Jr. were both ranked #17 among
juniors across the country at their respective weight classes. Jesse
Boyden was ranked #15 among the top seniors at his weight class.
Congratulations to all three boys on their honors.

Kenilworth takes another 2nd in Quakertown.
|
This year the Kenilworth Bears once again made the trek out to Quakertown,
PA to kick off the wrestling season. The Bears wrestled well en route to
the finals knocking off Upper Pekimon, Penn Ridge and Norristown before
falling to host Quakertown in finals. Individual standouts on the day were
Anthony Rice, Mike Disko, Nico Cantalupo and Nick Lospinoso who all went
undefeated.

Battlin' Balbonis take 1st at Voorhees Turkey Day Tournament
|
John and Joe Balboni each took home a first place trophy Thanksgiving
weekend from the long-running and very competitive Voorhees tournament.

Bower wins "the Belt"
|
On December 2nd the Bears traveled to Bridgewater for the highly contested
Battle for the Belt and placed several individuals in the top 4 but only
one Bear was able to come out on top of his respective weight class.
Tashawn Bower won the Junior HWT weight class with two pins. Other
individuals that excelled were:

BOYDEN GETS (SCARLET) KNIGHTED!
|
On November 6th, reported by www.IntermatWrestle.com, Brearley senior, Jesse Boyden, verbally committed to wrestle for the Rutgers University. He will join a still growing 2008 Rutgers recruiting class with other NJ native standout wrestlers, Scott Winston, Trevor Melde, Nick Menditto, Joe Langel and Zac Coulas. Other interested top choice schools were University of Pennsylvania, Columbia, The Naval Academy, Maryland and Cornell, but Jesse chose to stay close to home to wrestle for 1st year head coach, Scott Goodale, and the Scarlet Knights. Congratulations!
